My Dobermans dog bed is thicker, I weights about 130lbs and bought to put in my hummer for a long road trip (24 hours almost cross country) in case I needed to pull over and sleep for a few hours, after reading car air mattress reviews I didn’t want to get a faulty one that didn’t hold air so I bought this to be safe, grabbed a throw blanket and a few pillows…it’s about 1.5-2” think, I’m not a heavy person and I can feel the hardness under it…maybe that’s because I’m a side sleeper? If you “half” it still much more comfortable however most people aren’t as short or small as me so I’m my opinion the only way to make this semi comfortable is to buy 2 and stack them which I won’t do as that seems too expensive for an auto matters that won’t get much useI was a little skeptical when we received this because it was much thinner than I thought it would be, so it didn't provide much cushion on a hard floor/ground. But I was so wrong. The cushion was perfect. Like sleeping on a firm mattress. My husband and I said to each other many times how great it was to sleep on. We took it camping in the Adirondacks for a week, no back pains or anything. We're excited to use it again!! Highly recommend!Cons: the bag they give they give you to store it in is basically made out of paper and on of the straps to carry it ripped open a hole on it the first time we put it in the bag. I recommend keeping the original bag it came in. Seems stronger. Also, the zipper to the sheet it comes with fell off before we even used it. So that's annoying. However, it didn't matter because the sheet goes around the whole mattress and only opens at the end, so there were no issues with it staying on. Probably don't even need the zipper.The less than 4 or 5 star reviews worried me, but like I thought, anyone who doesnt like this mattress probably didnt understand what they were ordering.This is not a traditional American futon. This is a shikibuton.I ordered a queen, green. It is the correct dimensions. I didn't bother measuring the thickness.No mattress is firm enough for me. I have the shikibuton on a full sized box spring (it drapes over the edges) I have had no stiffness or pain since I started sleeping on this bed.I am making sure I air it and fluff it during the day and it has not compressed yet.This was an excellent purchase and I am quite happy with it.This futon is light weight with foam sandwiched between cotton filling. Easy to carry and can be used as a car mattress for a SUV.Comfortable to sleep. The thickness is just a matter of preference.It reduced my back pain caused by thick (>6”) memory foam mattresses.I love it.Mattress is nice for sure. But four inches is not accurate, more like two inches. Plus it’s a bit on the hard side. If you put a little bit of extra padding underneath it’s great.I guess that they measure differently in Japan. Because this mattress is maybe 2" thick at most. I let it spread out on the floor for 2 days before I used it like it says but it just didn't get any thicker. I payed 140 dollars for a thick blanket.The mattress is not that thick and it is lumpy but I think when I use it it will flatten out. Haven’t used it yet except to try it out in the living room. If you are looking for something comfortable I don’t think this is it but it’s better than sleeping on the floor.
