Thud is actually a vinyl plastic material. I've tried a handful that say waterproof and this one is the closest to water proof. Many things that say water proof are only water resistant and that's really what you want. For it to repel and resist water. It's not like you're going submerge the mattress into a full pool of water. It would get wet if you did that. But this will resist pee and that's what we're trying to do with our toddlers. Great product.
